Maria Johnston is a Visionary Artist, Therapeutic Intuitive Art Coach, Painting Teacher, and creative platform founder based in Ireland. Painting and drawing since childhood, she works primarily in oils on canvas while incorporating a wide range of materials and disciplines into her practice. Her work has often been described as “other-worldly,” though she prefers the term inner-worldly, a reflection of her deep engagement with dreams, altered states of consciousness, spirituality, cosmology, astrology, mythology, and the unseen realms of the psyche.

Maria began identifying as a visionary artist when she recognised the profound connection between her artwork and the rich visual landscape of her inner world. Through years of dream exploration and intuitive practice, she developed a body of work that bridges the visible and invisible - what she describes as a manifested threshold between worlds. Her paintings translate visionary experience into intricate symbolic compositions, often exploring themes of prophecy, transformation, and the dialogue between the subconscious and lived reality.

Deeply inspired by Irish mythology, ancient traditions, and the Celtic Wheel of the Year, her recent work honours Ireland’s sacred heritage through depictions of gods, goddesses, archetypes, and forgotten cultural narratives.

Alongside her studio practice, Maria shares her methods through a developed Therapeutic Intuitive Art practice - a unique integration of guided meditation and intuitive image-making. Her approach supports individuals in accessing the subconscious, releasing old emotional imprints, and dissolving creative blocks, empowering others to reconnect with their own visionary capacity.

Music remains inseparable from her artistic language. After leaving school, she studied music at Trinity College Dublin, where she completed a BA (Hons) and discovered a love of composition. The structural, harmonic, and emotional principles of music continue to inform her visual work. For Maria, art and music are not separate disciplines but expressions of the same current.

In 2023, Maria founded VisionÉire, a collaborative platform for Irish artists, poets, storytellers, and visionaries rooted in cultural heritage and contemporary myth-making. The initiative has brought together over 60 artists, produced numerous showcase events, and partnered with multiple festivals and organisations, creating a vibrant and evolving space for collective creative expression.
