Duration: 2.5 hours, Tuesdays

Materials: Bring your own supplies (list provided upon Booking), or purchase one of our art packs

Medium: Focus on either oils or acrylics (choose after the first class)

Next Step: Option to progress into more advanced classes, deepening your skills and therapeutic practices

Open to All: No previous artistic experience required; Classes are fully inclusive of all ages, genders, races, and backgrounds.

Maria Johnston is a professional artist and experienced art teacher with over 10 years of experience. Her expertise blends intuitive and therapeutic art techniques, focusing on emotional and subconscious aspects of creativity. As a visionary artist, Maria specializes in transcendent art that explores spiritual and mystical themes. Her work bridges the gap between everyday life and the unseen, bringing visions from her inner world to life using oils.

Maria’s teaching style is uniquely inclusive, drawing on her extensive experience working with diverse groups—corporate leaders, individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, as well as people with disabilities. Her most recent work was with Saint John of God in Celbridge/Maynooth, where she taught a fully inclusive art program for individuals with disabilities, utilizing her combined practical and therapeutic approach.

Maria believes that everyone, regardless of their life circumstances or abilities, can create art that has real meaning for them and others. Her classes are powerful, accessible, and focused on both skill-building and personal healing. What sets her classes apart is the integration of these two elements, creating an environment where students can grow both artistically and emotionally. This is especially beneficial for those who may have struggled in traditional group settings in the past.

A bit about my own journey with art and healing and why I believe painting is so powerful!

As a professional artist, art teacher, musician, and certified Therapeutic Art Coach I have discovered through my work just how powerfully transformative and healing creativity is.
I have taught many people, not only to paint or draw but to overcome the mental and emotional blocks that have stopped them from creating for years!
My fascination and study in the areas of the subconscious - with its abstract symbolism and endless depths - inevitably became a large part of what I do as an artist and art teacher. Through my own work, I have been able to draw massive links between the subject matter of my art, and what comes up from the subconscious through dreams and meditation, and make links to the world at large.
These links have allowed me to delve deeper into consciousness itself. They have enabled me to draw meaning from what I am creating which, ultimately, has given me a much greater understanding of myself, how the mind works, the interconnectedness of things, and just how powerful we all are as creative beings.
My own work, and my work with others, has brought deep healing, and powerful transformation and opened many doorways for me and those I have helped that were never at one stage conceivable!
