Maria Johnston is a visionary artist and intuitive art guide whose work explores the space between the seen and unseen - what she describes as the inner worlds that exist beneath the surface of everyday awareness.
Painting and drawing since childhood, Maria works primarily in oils on canvas, creating intricate, symbolic compositions that emerge from dreams, altered states of consciousness, and deep intuitive practice. Her work is often described as otherworldly, though for her it is rooted in something deeply human - an ongoing dialogue between the subconscious and lived experience.
Her artistic practice is profoundly influenced by Irish mythology, ancient traditions, and the Celtic Wheel of the Year, with recent work honouring the sacred landscapes, archetypes, and forgotten cultural narratives of Ireland.
Alongside her studio practice, Maria has developed a unique Therapeutic Intuitive Art approach, combining guided meditation with image-making. Through this process, she supports others in accessing their inner imagery, releasing creative blocks, and reconnecting with their own innate visionary capacity.
With a background in music from Trinity College Dublin, Maria brings a sensitivity to rhythm, harmony, and emotional tone into her visual work, approaching painting as both a structured and intuitive language.
She is also the founder of VisionÉire, a collaborative platform connecting artists, poets, and storytellers engaged in contemporary myth-making and cultural remembrance.
Through her teaching, Maria offers a supportive and non-judgmental space where participants can develop both technical painting skills and a deeper connection to their inner creative world.
